Check Your Raffle Tickets: Full House for Annual Night Golf EventDecember 9, 2016
What a night for golf it was? After a wet 24 hours the course had dried just enough to allow the annual 7 hole competition to get started at the scheduled 5pm.
It was a lovely warm evening, meaning Ivor Roy could wear his shorts. And the clear night sky meant the glowing balls would remain visible, even when nestled in the undergrowth.
A few hours (and much laughter) later it was all over, the pairing of Jamie Garcia and Rosanna Martin winning with a fantastic nett score of 24.3 from Andy Harris and Josh Roberts.
Golf? At Night? Really?
For anyone uninitiated in the noble art of Night Golf, it involves setting the course up with glow sticks: green ones along the fairways and yellow around the greens. Flagsticks glowed blue. Golf balls were of the luminous variety, visibility improved by giving them a boost with a torch before driving off. Incredibly, none were lost during the evening, suggesting either that all players kept it straight or that the glow was a great aid to ball-finding.
The evening made an impressive £945 in total for which the organisers, Phil Curry and Steve Watson deserve a vote of thanks. Proceed will go to the KGC Captain's Charity and the Harrogate and Craven Schools FA Under 15s County Football Tour.
