Andy says...

Firstly may I wish you all a very happy, healthy and successful New Year! It is promising to be a fantastic 2019 at KGC and the improvements are exciting!

I'll start with a word about the course, which is quickly becoming an absolute belter. The new fairway bunkers are all positioned and shaped and they have certainly made a visual impact. They are definitely thought-provoking. There will be some strategic decision-making needed now on holes 4,6,7,14 and 17 (above) which will hopefully all add to the interest of the round! If you are finding them intimidating or if you're not sure how you might tackle them, then it may well be worth your while to book some time with myself or Jake. We can teach you how to navigate around them technically and tactically but also we can show you how to hit from the sand, whether from distance or from that tricky 40-70 yardage!

Academy Lessons

30 mins - £25
50 mins - £40
Course of 6 (30 min) - £125
Course of 6 (50 min) - £200
7 holes on course - £50

Next week we also have a tree felling programme starting. Some of the big poplar trees have reached their lifespan and need to come out. This has been carefully planned to also give a different perspective to the holes in question. And with the greens playing better than ever during the winter after the sand treatment we should be playing on some great surfaces this year!

Big thank you to the Greens staff for all their continued hard work in presenting us with a fantastic golf course!

Practice Makes Perfect!

We are opening the grandly titled "ART Academy Grass Driving Range" on the 9th March at KGC. Players will still be able to use their own balls if they prefer but predominantly the left side of the range will be for range users. The plan is to create a visual like the photo above with more targets and improved hitting areas. The Srixon driving range balls will be available in basket sizes 30, 50 and 100 balls with discounts for regular users. The aim is to make our practise area more professional and fun and to add to the great experience at KGC. After all it is the first thing one sees on the drive into the Club. The range will be for all golfers and will be a useful tool in encouraging people into the game.

Be sure to come to warm up on our opening day on 9th March and receive a free basket of balls!

Success Stories

Pictured above are new members Emily Gotts (our fab caterer!) and Lindsay George who have recently joined as members and are enjoying their golf and now very active in the ladies section. They both started last year having gone through the 'get into golf' programme with yours truly. Lindsay even managed a win in the recent medal, scoring 35 points! Fantastic to see people getting into the game and enjoying themselves! If you have any friends may be keen please put them in contact with the pro shop!

Following on from Darren Swales success in winning the Pro Stableford OOM for the 2nd time, he continued his good form by clinching the January medal. And despite a new lower handicap Immediate Past Captain Nick Woods also scored 39 points, losing out on countback. In division 2 David Wem managed his recent handicap cut in the annual review with 38 pts to win and in the third division Andrew Castelow had the best of the day 41pts to win by 2!

It was Doctor Andrew Yarrow who started with a flourish in the first Pro Stableford of the year! Andrew Carded 42 points to pip Paul Riley who had 41. Mauricio Contreras and Peter Linfoot both had respectable 40pts for 3rd and 4th.

Hope to see you all out golfing over the next few weeks, fingers crossed the weather holds! Best wishes Andy and the Pro team.
