11 Holer Starts this WednesdayApril 4, 2016
The season's not really under way until the mid week 11 hole stableford competition gets going, is it? Established Members will know all about the competition, held every Wednesday between the start of April and the end of August. It culminates in "all-prize night," which is usually one of the more lively Wednesday evenings on the calendar. To play for prizes on that occasion, players will need to have played six 11 holers during the season.
So why is the 11 holer such a popular event? Well, for starters it's only 11 holes so doesn't take up the usual four hours. Also, it can be played any time of day or early evening, making it ideal for anyone who can escape from work a little early. And if you're a new Member, as Knaresborough Golf Club always boasts, even if you rock up on your own you will usually find someone with whom to play.
Each week sees two divisional winners plus one nearest-the-pin prize. Handicapping is 11/18ths and winners are cut two shots for the rest of the season.
So there we go..... a brilliant short-form of the game, played in KGC's usual spirit of friendly competition. And there's always a very reasonably priced dish of the day, so get yourself down there and enjoy the bonus of a bit of midweek heat of competition.
