Autumn Scramble

"You lot must be mad"

Words heard in many KGC Members' homes at around 6.30 am on Sunday as the hardy entrants to this year's Autumn Scramble got dressed in the dark (judging by some attire). By 7.30 we were all out there, in several layers of clothing, plus woolly hats, ready for a particularly nippy shotgun start at points all around the course.

Mad maybe, but why slumber on when you can enjoy a beautiful dawn at your favourite golf course? There was even the slightest hint of warmth in that sun.. by about ten o'clock.

For anyone who's not participated in a Texas Scramble before, it's a great fun format, the team selecting one of the four drives from where all will play their next shots, and so on. It's not without a bit of intra-team tension too, as each of the four team members has to have his/her drive selected on a minimum of four occasions. Try being Gareth when "Gareth still needs to get two in and there's only three to play!"

To yesterday, four hours later and the assembled mass were enjoying a hearty fry up and prize presentation. The winners on the day were Adrian Blackburn, Stuart Milligan, Simon Brown and John Burnham. Congratulations chaps and well done to all.

It strikes us that this would be a great competition for some of KGC's newer Members to enjoy too, so if you've not played in it before, maybe next time around have a go at rustling up a team!

"Come on, hurry up" they said.

"Wait a minute, I'm taking a picture"

And why not?... it was another stunning morning on the "best parkland course in Yorkshire."
