Men’s Captain’s Drive-in: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

From the bottom of my heart I'd like to thank all who attended, in person or in spirit, my big day yesterday. It was fantastic to see so many people there and the glorious weather topped the whole thing off. It means so much to me to have such wonderful support and I promise I'll do everything in my power to represent Knaresborough Golf Club and its Members to the best of my abilities.

Nick Woods-1-2Then there's the matter of my chosen charity, Myeloma UK. I chose this charity very carefully, not just from the perspective that it targets a specific form of cancer (5500 people will be told that they have this cancer every year in the UK), but also because of the way it uses charitable funds. Myeloma is currently incurable, but it is treatable, and combinations of existing drugs often yield great results. Combination drug trials are much less expensive than original research, so however small our contribution in the grand scheme of things, it really does make a difference. The charity uses its resources to share information about these drug trials and ensure that clinicians are as well informed as possible about the best treatment options. In so doing they have made great strides in recent years, life expectancy having improved at a faster rate than any other form of cancer. The job is far from done, but by giving to Myeloma UK you know you're backing a winning formula. Please be ready for future opportunities to donate. And don't forget the bottle in the Clubhouse and my KGC Men's Captain's justgiving page here.

Thanks so much to outgoing Captain Paul Crawley for all your support and here's to a continued speedy recovery... hope you're back on the course soon Sev!

Thanks also to Vice Captain Nigel Saville for all his hard work collecting nearest the cross "bets!"

We're off to a great start for the charity. Thanks to everyone's wonderful generosity yesterday the fund stands at well over £500 already!
