First Team Train Back on TracksJuly 3, 2018
A great night for KGC mens first team saw them beat Pannal 15/1 at home in what could prove to be one of the most important matches of the season. This was an important fixture, coming just a week after the team endured its first defeat of the season away at Oakdale.
After eight of the eleven fixtures KGC top both the scratch league and the combined scratch/fourball interclub championship. (Thirsk and Northallerton are two points behind, with a game in hand).
Knaresborough have three fixtures left: Ilkley away, Masham at home and then the potential big one away at Thirsk and Northallerton.
The stats tell a great story. The scratch team lost a few of its strongest singles players earlier in the year, yet still finds itself at the top of the table. Monday's whitewash saw wins for Ian Backhouse, Carl Peirson, Steve Bradley and Richard Bryers, leaving the table toppers the only unbeaten team in the league.
In the fourballs, Andy Turner and Captain Nick Woods kept their winning run going with eight from eight, tribute (as if we didn't know it) to the brilliance of our pro. Josh Reid and Ben Cairns powered their way to a 5 and 4 victory, Tom Halliday and Josh Roberts survived an onslaught to close out a draw and finally anchorman Paul Wilcox and playing partner Sam Moore needed Sam's knee jangling six foot putt to win on the final hole, proving that it's all about grit in tight situations.
