Investing in the Future
Knaresborough Golf Club has a well established Junior section and caters for all levels, from the youngster wanting to try golf for the very first time to the more established junior golfer keen to play competitive golf.
The very best thing you can do as the parent of a beginner junior is either pop into the Professional's shop and speak to Head Pro Andy Turner, Junior Coordinator Josh Reid or Assistant Pro Jake Twineham. Or call us on 01423 862865 any time. Alternatively complete a contact form here.
A friendly introduction, nothing intimidating here
For the complete newcomer, which to be honest most youngsters are, we offer a soft introduction in the form of a short (15 minute) "assessment" (for want of a better word) to make sure the plan fits the child.
Group lessons take place on a Saturday afternoon, starting as soon as the weather permits. The hour long session costs just £7 and individual junior lessons can be arranged for £20 per half hour.
In the summer months we run family fun sessions, again on Saturday afternoons.
Club Professional Andy Turner together with Junior Coordinator Josh Reid, have linked up with Golf Foundation and introduced a golf development structure which allows children of all ages to try golf and then hopefully progress through the 5 stages of the Rainbow to become an active junior golfer.
Here's how it works:
Step 1 – Andy and his team, using Tri Golf equipment, go into schools and clubs to give children the opportunity to try golf safely
Step 2 – Children are able to attend 8 week foundation courses where they learn the basic skills of the game. At the end of each foundation course the club hosts a junior festival where the number 1 priority is to have fun playing a number of golf games.
Step 3 – "Junior Rorys" allows children to experience short course golf competitions and to meet new friends. Through the year the Club runs a number of weekend competitions for budding Rory McIlroys and parents can join in too, as caddys! Each competition consists of a 7 hole short course Stableford and a 9 hole putting event. At the end of each season, there is a Junior Rorys presentation afternoon where we all celebrate the achievements of the participants.
Step 4 – Having enjoyed their time in the Junior Rorys section, we encourage children to take up full Junior Club membership to allow them to experience full 18 hole golf where they can hopefully reduce their handicap.
Step 5 – Knaresborough Golf Club is a member of the Harrogate & District Union of Golf Clubs and plays in the Junior League. As golf handicaps reduce, there will be opportunities for our young golfers to represent the club in team matches and District competitions.
Membership is currently £30 for up to and including the year in which the Junior Member has their 15th birthday. In addition there is a nominal (about £15) charge for insurance and England Golf and Yorkshire Union affiliation fees. Above this age there exists a sliding scale which you can find on the main membership page, here.
